Hurricane Katrina
I have yet to get the damage stories from my kinfolk in and around New Orleans, Louisiana. My guess is that the news won't be good. Here are some random residences of family members:

I know...they should have seen this coming, living in a sinking swamp. That doesn't make it any less awful for them, though, especially since it all could have been avoided or at least lessened had the federal government acted soon enough.
Now the feds are sending in National Guardsmen straight from Iraq. We're supposed to be reassured because these troops are battle tested and ready? For the love of God! It's so comforting to know that the minute a tragedy happens, we're ready to send our soldiers to battle our own people.
I'm not saying that the authorities don't need to restore order - obviously they do. But come on..."shoot to kill" orders? Isn't the federal government supposed to be some sort of fair, rational font of reason? I guess not. If you're seen carrying stuff that might not belong to you, prepare to die on the spot. God bless America.
