Chief Justice Roberts!?
According to the Blade, President George W. Bush has gone ahead and renominated John Roberts - this time for Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. This has me asking the question, "What the hell is he thinking?" Are there not other justices who have put in the time and deserve the promotion? This goes beyond politics; I am sure that Bush would otherwise select a conservative to be Chief Justice.
I'll put it like this...imagine that you are a manager at McDonald's. You've eyed the general manager position for years. Just as the company is hiring another regular manager, the general manager position becomes available. You think, "Gee...I've been here twenty years. I could move up to the GM position. The company can hire two more regular managers instead of just the one they're in the midst of hiring." You show up to work the next day to learn that the untested manager they are hiring has been offered the GM position. Wouldn't you be a tad bit angry? Wouldn't you feel slighted?
