There's Nothing Like Out-Breeding Your Opponent
If you've watched the news lately, you're aware that the Israeli government is sponsoring a voluntary (on the part of the government) withdrawal of Jewish settlers from Gaza. Inevitably the settlers are arguing that they have rights to the area going back thousands of years. Unfortunately for them, the Israeli government has noticed that the Palestinians are having more babies than the settlers. An already tense situation is just going to get worse as the years go by and the Palestinian babies grow up and look for housing. It's the same scenario that helped bring about peace talks in Northern Ireland, where Catholics have had more babies, turning the Protestant majority into a minority.
But as for the settlers' underlying claims to the land...blah. Normally I'm a fan of religion. However, I'm not a fan of people using religion as the basis for gaining socio-economic power over others.
I think I'm going to go over to France and settle on the property of some chateau owned by members of the former nobility who came to power there after their Norse ancestors came to the area. If anyone questions me, I'll point out that my own ancestors hunted and farmed that part of ancient Gaul long before those people's ancestors ever did. I have a claim, right? And poor me - since the U.S. started the war with Iraq, my French heritage has brought me nothing but torrents of persecution. The American people - of whom I'd been led to believe I was one - taunt me with their freedom fries and insults like "frog" and "shut the f*ck up and go eat a snail." Honestly, do I have any other choice but to go back to the homeland of my blood? Will the U.N. stand idly by as I'm forced to endure insults from degenerates who can't tell the difference between couture and prêt-à-porter?
