Not in my town!
An area church is planning to *gasp* do charitable work by converting what was a seedy motel (the old Budget Inn on Reynolds Road) into a place where poor families can live. As expected, area residents are in an uproar of fear because helping the poor is one thing but having to look at them is quite another.
This is almost as funny as the welfare-to-work people living in newly-constructed subsidized housing near downtown whining about plans to build a community outreach center in their neighborhood. That's the way, people...as soon as one foot takes a step up the ladder, use the other foot to hold everyone else back.
