"The power of the male libido is gigantic. For most post-adolescent males, the desire for sexual access to females is overwhelming. Patriarchy denies young males sexual access to females, creating sexual frustration, which is used as a motivation for the young male to establish himself of a suitable candidate for heterosexual marriage. What this amounts to varies according to the situation of each particular society. It usually is about accumulation of material wealth or skills relevant to production of goods necessary to sustain the society. The accumulation of material wealth is a sign of the male’s ability to provide goods to support the family and is also a sign of discipline and management skills. In agrarian economies, owning land and a home is a prerequisite to providing for a family, whereas in hunter-gatherer communities it is mastery of skills of defense and hunting. The automobile in my day was a sign that a young male had economic means, and a customized hot rod showed ingenuity and resourcefulness, qualities that could easily be translated into being a successful head of household. In the traditional patriarchal society, successful older males had more control of the fate of their daughters. They were given in marriage to promising young males as a reward for their indication of socially productive behaviors."
